Posted May 1, 2008
The lowest seed in the Red River Athletic Conference Baseball Championship did not play like the worst team there.

Instead, UTB/TSC gave teams in the conference something to remember with their performances Thursday, May 1, at Scorpion Park, culminating with an 11-4 loss to nationally ranked Texas Wesleyan University. The game was tied, 4-4, going into the bottom of the eighth inning before TWU struck for seven runs.

The loss ends the roller-coaster season for the Scorpions with a 24-32 record. UTB/TSC surprised many people by winning two games at the tournament -- over fifth-seeded Wiley College and second-seeded Bacone College.

UTB/TSC gave Texas Wesleyan all it could handle for six innings. The Scorpions actually led the top-seeded Rams in the seventh inning, 4-3. TWU tied the game in the seventh at 4-4 before exploding for seven runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Ignacio Celedon, Andres Monterrubio and Chris Walker had two hits each for the Scorpions, who had 10 total. Celedon spanked a solo homer in the second inning for the Scorpions' first run.

Jon Ali went the first inning for the Scorpions, allowing three runs, before giving way to Brian Dombeck, who pitched five and one-thirds innings. Julain Moya (8-7) came on in relief and took the loss.
