In their last competition, the Scorpions finished third at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Spring Invitational February 26-27 in Temple. UTB/TSC shot a two-day total of 627, behind team champion McMurry University’s 604 and second-place tourney host UHMB’s 612.
“We’ve done very well. I’m not going
to say we’ve done tremendous,” Scorpion head golf
coach Robert Lucio said. “We still have a lot of
room for improvement. We can’t have three good
scores and the fourth score be high. Everybody has
to come in to play.”
Three Scorpions — Jones Mitchell, Agapito Ortega and
Anthony Lopez — finished among the top 11 in the
competition. The trio was consistent in the two-day
tournament, shooting in the 70s for both rounds.
Mitchell finished tied for sixth place overall with
a 153 total to lead the Scorpions. Ortega came in
10th place (155) with Anthony Lopez finishing behind
him in 11th (156). Other Scorpion scores were a 163
from Chris Milligan and Jerry Borgogni’s 171.
