SHAWNEE, Okla. -- The UTB/TSC men's golf team improved its first-round score by three strokes, but still finished seventh overall at the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison Classic Tuesday, April 10, at the Shawnee Country Club.

The Scorpions shot a team total 318 Tuesday after an opening round 321 for a 639 score, 38 shots behind tournament champion Northwood University's 601. Twelve teams took part in the tournament.

The tournament was the final tuneup before the Red River Athletic Conference and Region VI Championship Tournament April 23-24 in Edmond, Okla.

"The scores we had in this tournament doesn't indicate the level of golf we played," Scorpion head golf coach Bob Lucio said. "We were stumped on the greens. Many of the other teams had more experience on the greens. But I'm very encouraged going into regionals in two weeks. I feel really good about the way these guys are playing and their attitude is great."

Jerry Borgogni shot a 77 Tuesday to highlight the Scorpion efforts after an opening round 90 for a 167 total. Anthony Lopez led the Scorpions with a 157, shooting an 80 Tuesday after an opening round score of 77.

Other scores were Agapito Ortega 78-81 for a 159, Jones Mitchell 83-80 for a 163, and Chris Milligan 83-93 for a 176. Victor Calzada shot 95-90 for a 185 score that did not count toward the team total.
