Martinez Finishes 1 Behind Leader in Lucio Tourney

LAGUNA VISTA -- UTB/TSC golfer April Martinez came back strong but one shot out of the individual medalist honors in the 9th Annual Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. Intercollegiate Golf Tournament Sunday, February 17, at the South Padre Island Golf Club in Laguna Vista.

Martinez shot an 81 Sunday after an opening round 87 for a 168 total. Brynn Waggoner of Texas Lutheran had a 81-86=167 to win medalist honors.

Finishing in third place was Carly Hanson of TLU with an 87-86=173.

TLU won the team race with a 353-354=707, 16 shots better than McMurray University's 358. The Scorpions finished third a 367-368=735, and Texas A&M International finished fourth with 481-446=927.

Other scores for the Scorpion golf team include Allison Valles with a 90, Tara Calderon with a 92-89+181, Allison Valles with a 90-98=188, Annette Valdes with a 98-100=198, and Dena Dutchover with a 103-103=206.

The next tournament for the Scorpion women's golf team will be Feb. 26-27 at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor University Spring Invitational in Salado.
