Martinez Finishes Second in Medalist Race

SALADO – April Martinez came back strong to finish second in the individual honors at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor University Lady Crusader Spring Invitational Tuesday, February 27.

Martinez shot an 82 Tuesday after an opening round 86 to finish at 168, five shots behind medalist Christi Williams of host UMHB. It was the second straight tournament that Martinez has finished second.

The Scorpions finished in sixth in the team standings with a two-day total of 749. UHMB won the tournament with a 683 to lead the 13-team field.

After Martinez, the remaining Scorpion golfers had a rough tournament. Tara Calderon shot a 92-100=192, Allison Valles shot 96-98=194, Annette Valdez shot 95-101=196, and Dena Dutchover shot 102-100=202.

The next action for the Scorpions will be the Lady Knights Bluebonnet Classic in Granbury, Texas April 2-3.
