Posted September 4, 2007
SHAWNEE, Okla. --
The UTB/TSC men's soccer team battled through double overtime and 110 minutes to
tie Oklahoma Baptist, 1-1, Tuesday, September 4.
The Scorpions (0-1-1), will stay in Oklahoma for games Friday and Saturday in the Bacone College Classic against Bacone College and Rogers State University, respectively.
"We played pretty well, the attitude of the team was tremendous," Scorpion head coach Dan Balaguero said. "They were a good team, it was unfortunate that we could not pull out a victory, but I was happy with the way we played."
After a season-opening 2-1 loss to St. Gregory's University on Monday, the Scorpions battled through a hot and humid afternoon.
The Scorpions scored first in the 36th minute on an unassisted goal by Enrique Rivera to take a 1-0 halftime lead. The Bison tied it at 1-1 on a penalty kick by Taizo Kasuya in the 52nd minute.
The Scorpions had a chance to win the game in the first overtime, but a penalty kick by Brian Hardie sailed wide.
UTB/TSC outshot the Bison, 21-17. Goalkeeper Bojan Maric had five saves.
"After this tough game, hopefully we can have a good weekend and come up with some victories," Balaguero said.
