 Scorpion soccer players forward Fernando Mendoza and goalkeeper Juan Gamboa have been named Red River Athletic Conference Players of the Week for the period September 17-23.

Gamboa earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor was also selected as the NAIA Region VI Player of the Week and is nominated for the national award.

Mendoza shared the Offensive Player of the Week award with Chase Richeson of Texas Wesleyan University.

Mendoza, a junior forward from Granada, Spain, scored the winning goal in the first home game in Scorpion soccer history on a penalty kick with three minutes remaining to lift the Scorpions to a 3-2 win over Huston-Tillotson University.  He has scored four goals this season.

Gamboa, a freshman goalkeeper from Brownsville Pace High School, started his first game of the season in a 1-0 win over College of the Southwest. He played all 90 minutes and had four saves in the thrilling victory.
