Midfielder Sara DiBenedetto signed a Red River Athletic Conference Letter of Intent to play women's soccer for the UTB/TSC Scorpions during a ceremony Friday, February 1.
DiBenedetto, a native of Thornhill, Toronto, Canada, will play midfielder for the Scorpions in the fall.
“Sara is a versatile player who should establish herself right away as either an outside left back or outside midfielder," head coach Nik Barjaktarevic said. "She should be a great player to watch next season."
DiBenedetto is expected to graduate in June from St. Elizabeth High School in Thornhill, where she was on the Honor Roll (equivalent to a Top 10 percent ranking) for two years. She has played club soccer since she was four years old, most recently with Oshawa Kicks, and was a member of the Youth Region Athletic Association championship team.
DiBenedetto becomes the third women's soccer player to sign with the Scorpions this fall. Midfielders Theresa Berman of Canada and Milica Mihajlovic of Serbia were the first two recruits signed.
UTB/TSC will return 13 players from the 2007 inaugural women’s soccer team that finished 13-7 and won the RRAC Tournament Championship. The Scorpions were eliminated in the NAIA Region VI quarterfinals.
Barjaktarevic is expected to sign several more recruits this spring.
