Six Players Sign Women's Soccer Letters of Intent

Six women
have signed Letters of Intent to play soccer for the first UTB/TSC women's
soccer team, which begins play in August.
Lena Candia, Brittany Moseley, and Lauren Owens are transfers from Virginia Intermont College, Aleisha Cassie and Christine Resing are coming from European countries, and Lorinda Gomez is from Del Rio.
The announcements bring the total number of women who have signed Letters of Intent to 18. Coach Nik Barjaktarevic is expected to sign a few more players to complete his squad.
The women’s soccer team begins play Thursday, August 23, 2007 at Morningside Park against the Instituto Tecnologico Superiores de Poza Rica Petroleros.
Lena Candia
“Lena is a central midfielder, very technical player, and her college and national tournament experience will make her impact player right away,” Barjaktarevic said. “We have very high expectations of Lena and all other players as we approach our first season.”
Candia transfers to UTB/TSC from Virginia Intermont College by way of Malmo, Sweden. While at VIC, she was named to the all-conference and regional teams. She plans on majoring in Business Administration.
Aliesha Cassie
“I’ve heard a lot of good things about Aliesha and very excited to have her join the team,” Barjaktarevic said. “She is a natural striker and adding to the mix we have in our front line that will be very strong and dangerous.”
Cassie attended Banff Academy in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She played for the Aberdeen Ladies hockey team where her team just won the league championship and was involved in Scotland training camps. She plans on majoring in education.
Lorinda Gomez
“Lori has a great feel for the goal and will be competing for the spot up front or in the midfield,” Barjaktarevic said. “I was impressed with her passion for the game and I know that she has that spark that we need.”
At Del Rio High School, Gomez earned second team All-District 28-5A and first team all-district 28-5A honors her senior year. She was also selected to be on the all-star team. She was captain of the Lady Rams girls’ soccer team and was part of the Journalism Club. She plans of majoring in physical therapy.
Brittany Moseley
“Brittany can play anywhere in the midfield, but also as a forward,” Barjaktarevic said. “It was very important for our team to have players that experienced playing at the next level and know what it takes to get to the national tournament.”
Moseley attended Manchester High School where she earned first team all-district honors for two years and first team all-region for another two years. She was a member of district team 88’ and state team 88’ for Richmond Kickers Premier. She transfers to UTB/TSC after spending one season with Virginia Intermont College.
Lauren Owens
“Lauren is another player that can fit in well in variety of positions and will be a great addition to the team,” Scorpion Head Women’s Soccer Coach Nikola Barjaktarevic said. “She will be competing for a spots as a striker or an attacking midfielder, but might play in central midfield as well. Lauren is a very fit and has strong presence on the field.”
Owens comes to UTB/TSC after spending one season with Virginia Intermont College. She attended West Caldwell High School in Lenoir, North Carolina where she was named to the all-county and all-conference teams. She was captain of the team and awarded the Offensive Most Valuable Player her senior year.Christin Resing
“If I need to use one word to describe Kristin it will probably be ‘destroyer’ and this is why she will be very useful in our back line,” Barjaktarevic said. “She is strong, physical, used to high level game, technically very solid and besides finishing the job defensively will be able to contribute to the attack as well.”
Resing comes to UTB/TSC from Vreden, Deutschland where she was a member FC Oeding e. V. 1925. She was also a coach for soccer players aged 15 and younger. She plans to major in International Business.
