SHAWNEE, Okla. -- The UTB/TSC women's soccer team found the going rough, losing its first game of the season, 5-1 to Oklahoma Baptist Tuesday, September 4.

The Scorpions (2-1), will stay in Oklahoma for games Friday and Saturday in the Bacone College Classic against Bacone College and Rogers State University, respectively.

"They came out strong and we came out reserved," Scorpion head coach Nik Barjaktarevic said. "They took us out of our game. We had some defensive breakdowns and mistakes that cost us."

After season-opening victories over Texas A&M International University and St. Gregory's University, the Scorpions found the going rough against OBU (3-2), the third-ranked team in the region.

Oklahoma Baptist scored three first-half goals, including one two minutes into the game. The Lady Bison led in the second half, 5-0, before the Scorpions could score with four minutes remaining in the contest on a goal by Lena Candia with an assist by Aliesha Cassie.

"If you don’t count our mistakes, we played relatively even with them, and hopefully help us get into better shape later in the season," Barjaktarevic said.

Scorpion goalkeeper Jacquie Ruiz had six saves. The Scorpions took nine shots compared to the Lady Bison's 20.
