MUSKOGEE,
Okla. -- The UTB/TSC women's soccer team continued its impressive start to the
new season with a dramatic 1-0
victory over Bacone College in the
Bacone College Classic Friday,
September 7, in the Red River
Athletic Conference opener for both
teams.
The Scorpions are now 3-1 for the season and 1-0 in RRAC play. Bacone dropped to 0-3, 0-1. UTB/TSC stays in Muskogee for an 8 a.m. match Saturday, September 8, against Rogers State University, a member of the Sooner Athletic Conference.
"It’s a great historic win for the program," Scorpion head coach Nik Barjaktarevic said. "We had a lot of opportunities to score. Any conference game on the road is a tough game, no matter who you play. Bacone is a tough team, and should be one of better teams in conference."
Aliesha Cassie scored the game's only goal with 15 seconds left in the game. Lauren Owens assisted on the play.
"Everybody is excited about the win. It was a total team effort like it should be."
Carling Rootes and Cristin Resing were the defensive standouts, while goalkeepers Jacquie Ruiz and Jessica Hamer played the position for one half each, preserving the shutout.
The Scorpions took 20 shots compared to Bacone's nine. Ruiz had six saves and Hamer three.
After the weekend, the Scorpions will compete the Southwestern Assemblies of God University Classic held at Northwood University in Cedar Hill on September 14-15. The Scorpions will play McPherson University (Kan.) and York College (Neb.).
