Scorpions Blank HTU in Home Opener, 4-0

After starting the season with eight road games, the UTB/TSC women's soccer team enjoyed staying at home and shutting out Huston-Tillotson University, 4-0, at Morningside Park Thursday, September 20.

It was a significant historic win for the first-ever Scorpion women's soccer team because it puts UTB/TSC in first place in the Red River Athletic Conference standings with a 2-0 record. It as also marked the midway point of the season -- the ninth game of a 17-game campaign.

The Scorpions will have a chance to make it 3-0 in the RRAC when they host College of the Southwest at 5 p.m. Saturday, September 22, at Morningside Park.

UTB/TSC had a 2-0 lead in the first half, thanks to two goals by Mayra Solis in the 8th minute and 20th minute.

Brittany Moseley scored in the 50th minute and conference leading scorer Lena Candia added her 11th goal of the season in the 87th minute.

Vanessa Gallegos had two assists and Lauren Owens one. The Scorpions took 20 shots on goal.

Both Scorpion goalkeepers played a part in the shutout. Jessica Hamer started, played 56 minutes and had two saves. Jacquie Ruiz played the last 34 minutes and also had two saves.
