Scorpions Overpower Texas College, 8-0; Seek 3rd Place

Lena Candia scored four goals, and didn't know what to call it, to lead the UTB/TSC women's soccer team to an 8-0 rout of Texas College Friday, October 19, at Morningside Park.

Three goals is considered a "hat trick" in hockey and soccer, and Candia had four to pace the Scorpions. She solidified her position as the leading scorer in the Red River Athletic Conference with a 1.0 average, and is the likely scoring champion for the regular season with one game remaining on the schedule.

The Scorpions finish the regular season with a match against Southwestern Assemblies of God University (1-15-1, 1-5-1) at 5 p.m. Saturday, October 20, at Morningside Park.

UTB/TSC, now 9-6 overall and 4-2 in RRAC play, can try to get its 10th win of the season against SAGU and clinch the No. 3 seed the RRAC Tournament next week in Fort Worth.

Texas College dropped to 5-7-3 and 3-3-1. The Steers were ahead of the Scorpions in the standings before Friday's game.

Candia scored two goals in the first half, when the Scorpions had a 3-0 lead, and scored twice more in the second half. Lauren Owens, Mayra Solis, and Carling Rootes also had goals for the Scorpions.

Aleisha Cassie, a defender, also scored when she lofted a beautiful 40-yard shot over the goalkeeper's head into the net and shrugged her shoulders in amazement.
