Posted October 25, 2007
Lena Candia has received the NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week Award for the week of October 15-21, the first such award ever bestowed upon any UTB/TSC athlete.

It was a big week of awards for Candia, who was also named Red River Athletic Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the same period, and was also named RRAC Offensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.

Candia, a junior from Malmo Sweden, is also the leading scorer in the RRAC, finishing the regular season with 22 goals in 16 games for a 1.375 average per game, seventh-best in the NAIA.

Candia scored seven goals and added three assists in two games last week.  She had four goals and an assist in an 8-0 win over Texas College and then scored three goals and had two assists against Southwestern Assemblies of God.

In a related recognition, Scorpion teammate Christin Resing was named RRAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week for her role in the two shutout victories. Resing, a freshman from Vreden, Germany, helped hold the two Scorpion opponents scoreless and taking only four shots.
