NicholsonNicholson comes to UTB/TSC after three years as head coach at Union University, an NAIA school in Barbourville, Kentucky.
In three seasons with the Lady Bulldogs, he posted a 65-50 coaching record. His best season came in 2007, when Union won the Appalachian Athletic Conference, the school's first conference championship in volleyball, and finished with a 16-2 record.
The Bulldogs, who had no seniors on the 2007 team, advanced to NAIA Region XII semifinals and finished the season with a 33-14 record. Nicholson was named AAC Coach of the Year and Region XII Coach of the Year.
Nicholson's squad included the AAC Player of the Year, Setter of the Year and Freshman of the Year. He was also the AAC Chair for Volleyball.
During Nicholson's first two seasons at Union, the Lady Bulldogs finished 11-19 overall and 8-12 in ACC play in 2005 and 21-17 overall and 12-6 in the AAC in 2006.
Nicholson is also a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association and holds American Red Cross certifications in Standard First Aid and AED Adult CPR. He was also an adjunct instructor in the Physical Education Department at Union.
Prior to his three years at Union, Nicholson spent two years as an assistant volleyball coach at Western Carolina University, an NCAA Division I school. During that time, the Catamounts were 28-33 overall.
Previously, Nicholson coached at the high school level in Oregon and North Carolina.
Nicholson also officiated high school volleyball and basketball games in North Carolina.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Western Carolina University, and a Master of Education degree in Educational Administration from Union College.
He is married to Jennifer Rogers Nicholson.
