Scorpions Start Season with 3-1 Record

The UTB/TSC Women's Volleyball Team won three of its four matches in the Second Annual South Padre Island International Women's Volleyball Tournament August 25-26 at the SPI Convention Centre.

The tournament marked the first competition for the Scorpions in any sport in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). For decades, the Scorpions competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) until May.

The Scorpions reeled off three straight victories after an opening loss to  Houston Baptist on August 25. HBU, the seventh-ranked NAIA team in the country, knocked off the Scorpions, 3-1.

UTB/TSC then won is next three tournament matches without losing a single game. The Scorpions knocked off Universidad de Tamaulipas en Tampico, Huston-Tillotson University and Monterrey Tech, all by 3-0 scores.

The only tournament team the Scorpions did not play was Texas A&M-International of Laredo. UTB/TSC, Houston Baptist and Huston-Tillotson are members of the Red River Athletic Conference.
