PORTALES, N.M. -- The UTB/TSC women's volleyball team came back strong after a slow start to down Eastern New Mexico University, 3-1, here Saturday, October 6.

The 26-30, 30-27, 30-21, 32-30 victory was the fifth this season for the Scorpions over an NCAA Division II opponent against one loss.

UTB/TSC, the 22nd-ranked NAIA team in the country, improved its season record to 19-5.

ENMU, a member of the Lone Star Conference, dropped to 3-18 for the season. The Zias gave the Scorpions a much tougher match than UTB/TSC Coach Marcus Young expected.

"They’re a lot better than I thought they’d be," Young said  "I don’t know why they haven’t won more games. It sure seemed like they were fired up playing against us."

The Zias won the first game, 30-26, before the Scorpions came back to win Game 2 by a 30-27 score and Game 3, 30-21. The fourth game came down to the wire, with the Scorpions taking a 32-30 win.

For the Scorpions, it was too much Talita Milasauskas, who recorded her second straight triple-double with 26 kills, 13 digs, 11 blocks and 2 aces. Claudia Alarcon also had another outstanding match, recording 18 kills and 17 digs. Setter Daianarah Bracero placed the ball for them almost flawlessly, getting 61 assists.

Jenny Ashley had nine kills and five blocks, and Katie Japp had four kills, 11 digs and five blocks.

The Scorpions have another match Saturday, taking a two-hour drive south through eastern New Mexico to Hobbs, to face College of the Southwest (5-5, 2-1) at 7 p.m. MST in a Red River Athletic Conference match.
