Scorpions Start Region Play Friday against John Brown University

The UTB/TSC women's volleyball team
is the number one seed for the NAIA Region VI Volleyball Tournament
Friday and Saturday, November 16-17, at Lubbock Christian
University.
As the top seed, the Scorpions are favored to win the eight-team tournament and advance to the NAIA National Volleyball Tournament in Columbia, Mo. November 28-December 1.

The regional tournament is composed of teams from the Red River Athletic Conference and the Sooner Athletic Conference. Teams invited are seeded according the newest regional ratings released Monday.
As the #1 seed, the Scorpions (30-7) will meet eighth-seeded John Brown University (14-19) at 11 a.m. Friday. The Golden Eagles (6-6 in SAC play) are from Siloam Springs, Ark., located in western Arkansas along the border with Oklahoma.
Should the Scorpions win, they would advance to the semifinals against the winner of the Oklahoma City University-Southwestern Assemblies of God University match at 11 a.m. Saturday.
The regional championship match is scheduled at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The Scorpions captured their first RRAC volleyball championship with a 3-0 victory over host Texas Wesleyan University November 10. Second-seeded Lubbock Christian University (29-7) won the Sooner Athletic Conference.
UTB/TSC is ranked No. 18 in last week's NAIA national poll, while Lubbock Christian University received votes equivalent to a No. 33 rating.
"One of our goals was to win the conference, and the next one is to win the region," Scorpion head coach Marcus Young said. "We're looking forward to the regional tournament, and we hope to do real well there. Since we're ranked the number one team in the region, we have to go out and prove it."
