UTB/TSC is the target of the other five teams at the NAIA Region VI Volleyball Tournament Friday and Saturday, November 16-17, at the Rip Griffin Center on the campus Lubbock Christian University.

Because the Scorpions (30-7) are the No. 1 seed and have beaten the second- and third-seeded teams this season, they are the favorites to advance to the NAIA National Volleyball Tournament in Columbia, Mo. November 28-December 1. The other five schools would love to pull the big upset over the Scorpions.

UTB/TSC needs three victories here, starting with its opening quarterfinal match against John Brown University (14-19) from SIloam Springs, Ark. at 11 a.m. Friday.

The regional tournament is composed of teams from the Red River Athletic Conference and the Sooner Athletic Conference. Teams invited are seeded according the newest regional ratings released Monday.

Should the Scorpions win, they would advance to the semifinals against the winner of the Oklahoma City University-Southwestern Assemblies of God University match at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The regional championship match is scheduled at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Scorpions captured their first RRAC volleyball championship with a 3-0 victory over host Texas Wesleyan University November 10. Second-seeded Lubbock Christian University (29-7) won the Sooner Athletic Conference.

UTB/TSC is ranked No. 18 in last week's NAIA national poll, while Lubbock Christian University received votes equivalent to a No. 33 rating.

"One of our goals was to win the conference, and the next one is to win the region," Scorpion head coach Marcus Young said. "We're looking forward to the regional tournament, and we hope to do real well there. Since we're ranked the number one team in the region, we have to go out and prove it."
